RAMCO PRINTING: Takes Over ASL Print Division – 2009

As of April 2009, the merger of Ramco Printing Works and ASL Printing became effective, creating what is undoubtedly East Africa’s largest offset printer. The merger is designed as a partnership of equals that combines the strengths of the two firms while overcoming the limitations they faced as separate companies.

The new venture retains the name Ramco Printing Works, and is looking to a future of expanded growth in quality, technology and also in the ability to match client needs. Facilitating this process is the common culture and values that the two companies share as members of the Ramco Group.

To accommodate the merger, the new firm has opened a new 100, 000 sq ft premises equipped to deliver quality prints, perfected in one run. Located on Mombasa Road, the new facility will handle the Inner Cartons Division, the Promotional Division and Magazines & Books while the current Dunga Road facility will handle Stationery and Contracts, Computer Stationery, Labels, POS material and General Print.

For clients, the merger represents a definite step forward as far as quality, variety and delivery times are concerned. Both current and incoming accounts will find their needs easily accommodated by the new firm’s expanded capacity, something that gives Ramco a definite edge over the competition. Along with investments in technology and installation, the smooth transition has also been planned to minimize any disruptions in account management and client handling – as seen by the retention of all current contact details.

All said the merger keeps Ramco in tune with the global trends of market consolidation, with a focus on clients’ bottom lines. Even as teams from the two firms develop their union, they can do so knowing that the increased capacity has already been felt in the market and that they are at the center of a significant shift on the regional print landscape.

If this action is any guide, the industry should expect to see more from Ramco Printing as a market leader, both in innovation as well as product delivery.
